NOR CAL STATE CUP

It's been a crazy couple of weeks...





Last weekend Miranda's soccer team was in Sacramento for the state cup quarter finals. We lost the first three games. It was really disappointing but we did have some tough competition. We had one last game to play before heading home. This last game would determine if the team would go on to play in the semi finals the following weekend or be done for the season.

This fourth game turned out to be the most exciting game (both on and off of the field). The game ended in a tie and according to NorCal State Cup rules it should have gone into 10 minutes of sudden death overtime; then if there was still a tie it would go to penalty kicks. Well, the ref's, for whatever reason, skipped the 10 min of overtime play and went straight to penalty kicks! Our team manager went to protest to the field marshal (who turned out to be the head honcho for NorCal Soccer). He came over to the field before the PK's were over and told the ref's that the 10 min. of sudden death OT must be played. He said that if there was still a tie that the score of the PK's would stand. The ref's then (for whatever reason) asked the two coaches to make a deal to only do 5 min. of sudden death OT and then retake the penalty kicks. Both coaches agreed, shook hands and our team ended up winning.

The other team's coach then said that he never agreed to re-do the PK's. It turned into a huge fiasco and after almost an hour and a half of debate the NorCal board said that the game needed to be re-played. The parents of the other team were furious! They sent numerous emails to the NorCal board (which our team was copied on). They said they were worried that we were going to cheat and swap out our players. So ridiculous! In the end we had to re-play the game on Thursday night on a neutral field. The other team was from the Mountain View/Los Altos area so we went to Union City for the re-match. It was a really good game and our team won 1-0. With the victory we were off to the Semi Finals in Manteca where we won our first game 2-0 (vs FC Alliance Dynamite from Richmond). That victory sent us on to play in the Championship game today (Sunday) against Placer Gold United. We won 1-0 which made East Diablo Fury the 2009 NorCal State Cup U10 girls premiere division CHAMPIONS!
